DENUDED [Israel]
written and performed by Miki Peleg-Rothstein
Mira, a seven-year old girl has to cope with her mother’s remarriage and their relocation to her new father’s home in Tel Aviv. Her stepfather wastes little time in making sexual advances on Mira.
Based on the girl’s diary, the play describes her growing up under the shadow of her deaf and enslaved mother’s second marriage, the wandering between various schools, the complex relationship with her stepfather, the sexual abuse she suffers, her mental and emotional breakdown and physical decay leading to anorexia. It also reveals the dreams and hopes of an ordinary girl whose only wish is to stay alive, despite her childhood being physically and emotionally dislocated.
"Pchuta"/"Denuded" is an extraordinary performance that exposes the almost unimaginable devastation that sexual abuse has on children. It won the first prize for a solo play at the Israeli Theatro Netto Festival in 2007.
