Vaslav Nijinsky (1889-1950) was a ballet dancer and choreographer of Polish descent, who revolutionized the art of ballet and whose work in the field of choreography was considered daringly original and most innovative. Nijinsky’s dancing was full of dramatic tension and expressiveness, and he was celebrated for his virtuosity and for the depth and intensity of his characterizations. At the age of 30, Nijinsky had a nervous breakdown, was diagnosed with schizo-phrenia and his career effectively ended. He spent the rest of his life in various mental institutions.
The performance is inspired by the diary of this outstanding artist written just before he was committed to the asylum. It is a shocking record of a painful and ecstatic inner world of "the God of the Dance".
Kamil Maćkowiak, the Polish theatre and movie actor who also studied at the National Ballet Academy in Gdansk has already received several awards for his performance.
