I CANNOT TELL YOU I LOVE YOU
an evening with Angela Winkler
(Germany)

Texts by Else Lasker-Schüler, Ingeborg Bachmann, William Shakespeare
Songs by Kurt Weill, Hanns Eisler, Arnold Schönberg and Barbara
Musical accompaniment by Jörg Daniel Heinzmann (piano) and Dragan Radosavievich (violin)
Set/stage design by Wigand Witting and Luca Winkler

Already for over 30 years, Angela Winkler has been considered one of the best theatre and film actors of the German-speaking countries. She played leading parts in many key works of New German Cinema under such directors as Volker Schlöndorff (”The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum”, ”The Tin Drum”), Hans W. Geißendörfer (”Edith's Diary”), Margarethe von Trotta (”Sheer Madness”) and Reinhard Hauff (”Knife in the Head”), and worked with such formative theatre directors as Peter Stein, Klaus Michael Grüber, Robert Wilson, Luc Bondy and Peter Zadek (who gave her the part of Hamlet).

In 2004 she took the audience of “Ruhrfestspiele” by storm with an evening about which the press wrote: “She looks tender, almost shy on stage as she recites poems and sings songs by Weill, Eisler and Schönberg - not a trace of big gestures or diva-like behavior. (...). One senses truthfulness in her interplay between whimsical smile and frown. (...) Jörg Daniel Heinzmann (piano) and Dragan Radosavievich (violin) accompany Angela Winkler congenially.” (Ilka Bärwald)
