“Put an eagle in a cage” (… and it will bite
the bars, whether they be of iron or gold…) is a one-woman
show portraying a series of Ibsen’s heroines.
Juni Dahr, one of Norway’s most successful actresses,
presents different types of women from several Ibsen’s
plays: the strong, the searching, the wounded, the defeated.
She combines these dramatic personages (Hilde, Hedda Gabler,
Mrs. Alving, Nora, Ellida and Hjordis) into a whole, a paraphrase
of the many-faceted female character.
„The reason I love Ibsen so much“, Juni Dahr explains,
„is that he makes women speak. He makes them really active,
not just in supporting roles, but as protagonists. They are
thinking and feeling individuals, and interesting in their own
right, not just as someone’s wife or lover. Delving into
his characters is an endless journey. Layer after layer is peeled
away, only to reveal new aspects.“
