THE
DOUBLE-BASS
Igor Karas Moldavia
It is a story of a nondescript double bass player
who works in the orchestra pit of the opera. He is preparing
to go to work, the opening night of Rheingold, as he talks to
the audience. What we see are the frustrations of "the little
man", the laborer, as he sees himself, the nobody of the orchestra.
The play is a delightful allegory of the downtrodden crying
out to be heard, set in the elegant world of classical music.
It is a story about the each of us: about human loneliness,
about our fragile efforts to grasp happiness. Patrick Süskind's
" Double-Bass" had its premiere in 1981, and is without doubt
THE classic piece of the modern monodrama. The audiences all
over the world love it. Igor Karas is an award-winning actor,
successful both nationally and internationally.
