CASSANDRA
Anne Bennent and Otto Lechner Austria/Switzerland/Germany
Christa Wolf's "Cassandra", published in 1983,
movingly retells the story of the fall of Troy - from the point
of view of a woman whose visionary powers earned her only contempt
and scorn. Written as a result of the author's Greek travels
and studies, Cassandra speaks to us in a pressing monologue
whose inner focal points are patriarchy and war. Her observations
about the war, made from a female point of view, are the core
of her monologue. She is alone in her views and she knows that
in fact, she has never had a chance to survive. Anne Bennent,
an actress at the Vienna Burgtheater and Otto Lechner, an accordion-virtuoso
created an impressive performance, already well known to the
theatre-goers in the German-speaking countries.

GWUNDRIG (Almost Strange)
Anne Bennent and Otto Lechner Austria/Switzerland/Germany
526 pages of his text written in 1924/25 have been found after
the death of the Austrian writer Robert Walser (1878-1956).
Written in pencil, in very small letters (in the so-called Sütterlin-cursive),
the text was extremely difficult to decipher. Anne Bennent used
these "micrograms" and other Walser's texts and poems in her
performance, the original title of which was FROM THE PENCIL
LANDSCAPE. Once again, the actress is accompanied by Otto Lechner,
a congenial accordionist who uses his instrument in a surprisingly
unusual way. However, Walser's unique text and original language
are most important in Anne Bennent's show. You will marvel at
Walser's linguistic abilities and GWUNDRIG may definitely contribute
to the re-discovery of this exceptional writer.
