THE
CUPS OF ANGER
Carlos Concha -Chile
Ramon Griffero, one of the most unusual contemporary South
American dramatists, wrote the monodrama La Copas de la Ira
-
The Cups of Anger especially for the young actor Carlos
Concha. The performance is directed by Ricardo Balic whose creative
theatrical language is representative for the new generation
of the Chilean directors.
The audience is being taken on a journey through several reincarnations
of one figure that is successively a young pharaoh, a medieval
heretic about to be burnt at the stake, Fatimas shepherd
eavesdropping on the Virgin Mary and finally a secret police
agent in Santiago. All these characters have visions that contain
either a prophecy or a curse. Their presentation is seasoned
with humour and irony and they actually represent a mankind
that stopped listening to divine messages.
